Family OS is a private household organiser built and used by one family. It is not a public product and does not accept sign-ups from the general public. This page explains what the app does with your information.
Only people invited by the app's owner can create an account.
Calendars (Google, and optionally Outlook or iCloud) are read so the app can show everyone's schedule in one place and suggest free time. A calendar can be marked private, which hides event details from other family members while still showing the time as busy.
Email access is read-only and narrowly scoped: only messages that match filters set by the account owner are read, such as emails from a specific school or teacher address. The app does not read the full inbox. Matching emails are turned into suggestions that the owner reviews and approves.
Account email address is used for sign-in, password resets, and invitations.
The AI helper is off until the account owner switches it on. When it is on, the text of a matched email (or something a family member pastes in) may be sent to Google's Gemini model, used through Google's paid API, to turn it into suggestions. If Gemini is unavailable, the same text may be sent to Anthropic's Claude model instead. Before anything is sent, email addresses, phone numbers, ID numbers and card or bank account numbers are masked. Calendars are never sent to the AI. Neither provider uses this data to train its models under its paid API terms. AI use is capped by a monthly spending limit and a daily request limit.
Family OS's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google Calendar and Gmail data are only used to show the family's schedule and to suggest events, tasks and payments inside the app. They are not used for advertising, not sold, not used to train AI models, and not read by people except where the account owner asks for help with their own data or the law requires it.
Household data is stored in a Postgres database operated by Neon and hosted through Vercel. Data is not sold or shared with advertisers.
The account owner can disconnect any calendar or email account, turn the AI helper off, or export or delete household data at any time inside the app. Disconnecting an account revokes the app's access with Google or Microsoft and deletes its stored sign-in tokens and synced calendar events; deleting the household removes its data from the database.
